Sunday
- read 1 Corinthians 3
- Read the guidelines below and then, through prayer, set a rule (think trellis) for the week (I hope longer).
Monday - Saturday: Time in study with these guidelines
-
TIME: This process is between you and God, but I ask that you push yourself in this process. Maybe that means starting small and then moving to more.
Pick an amount of time to reflect daily on the lesson. Let’s say you agree to 10 minutes. Spend that 10 minutes doing the following reading the passage or part of it, reading and reflecting on the questions. It is not about how much you can do in a day, it is about setting aside time and just being with God. It is not production, it is about obedience.
-
RHYTHM: Make this a rhythm, so pick a time that each day you stop what you are doing and spend this time. Maybe it is first thing in the morning, maybe it is at noon or 6PM. Know what works best for you and do it.
-
PRAYER:Soak your experience in prayer.
-
RECORD: Journal about your experience. More than just the questions, how did this improve or degrade over the week? What is God telling you?
-
SACRIFICE: This is not about more, it is about less. What are you being asked to give up? Work with God on this
Throughout this process also reflect on the fact that we are not slaves in Egypt. We are people living in abundance through what God provides.
Extra Questions or focal questions:
Q1: What is your foundation?
Given: 1 Corinthians 3:15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. (ESV)
Q2: How does the fact that if you fail, if you fall short, if you do not survive the fire, you are still saved sit with you deep in your heart?
Q3: What do you think the “… only as through fire” means? Was this only for the Corinthians in the first century or does it pertain to us today?
Q4: Reflect on what the fire has taken from you, given to you, or revealed in your life. What areas of life do you need to give to the fire?
